The ruffles of the skirt seem to fade due to the bright lighting cast upon the dancer. It is a complex arrangement of dancers who are mostly seen taking a break from their rigorous training schedule. In the following years Degas travels a bit, to Italy and back, befriending Manet and participating in various exhibitions. The background is composed of muted, dull, neutral and cool colors.
